The house project was put on hold for a few months due to unforeseen circumstances. Deana H. (Yes Mark and she married some time ago but where now separated) broke up with her live in boyfriend and didn’t have a place to stay. I let her and her three kids move into the house while she saved money to get another place. ( I just can’t see a single mother of three young girls depending on finding a place to stay every night.)

Some months after staying in the house she packed up her stuff and moved to North Dakota with some relations up there. YUK North Dakota! I lived there for 4-5 years. In the summer (What there is of it) it is pretty nice but oh those winters.

Back to the renovation:

Since I had all new interior doors I decided to replace all of the knobs with new brass ones. And while I was at it, I would install a pretty fluted molding around the doors facing the living room.

I should be part owner of Home Depot by now. I bought everything I needed and then started measuring for cuts. I used my chop saw (Yes another holiday gift) to cut the parts for the doors and painted them all white. Once they where dry I used finishing nails to install them. I had to go back to Home Depot for a set punch to drive the nails inside the fluting and for another piece of fluting since my original guestimate was off by 8 inches.
Yeh, I know that’s what my wife said.

Anyways….Next was the molding for the bedroom floor. Remember I had a gap of three inches between the floor and the bottom of the sheetrock? Once the carpet was installed it was down to about two inches. Another trip to Home Depot this time for 1 x 4s. While there I saw these neat little turnings that you can use in corners. They where made so you could just use but joints instead of mitered cuts in the corners. I figured I could use those and it would look nicer than if I try to miter them.

Once I got them stored I turned my attention to my router. (LOL yes, a gift) I didn’t want to put out the $200 that Sears wanted for a full sized router table so I decided I would make my own from one of the little table top ones. I had this little metal frame that I got out of the trash at work to use as a base but it was too small for the tabletop base to fit to.
Mark came up with the idea to mount a piece of plywood to the small base and then attaché the router to the plywood. It works pretty well though it does add weight.

I ran each of the 1 4s through the router to give it a nice shaped appearance. The using a wheel sander attached to my drill smoothed out the rough edges. Next came a white paint job and installation using screws and finishing nails. End result was acceptable.
